Air volume test
After completion of installation of equipments, pipings, duct work and electrical work for the HVAC
system, air volume test to be carried out and the measurement of the test to be recorded on
designated sheets.

Procedure
  1. Open all the air inlets and outlets of the HVAC system as well as natural vent. system.
  2. Open all the balancing dampers and fire dampers.
  3. Start all the fans for HVAC system.
  4. Adjust the mixing ratio of fresh air from outside and recirculation air with the balancing
  damper of the air conditioning unit
  5. Adjust the design air quantity with volume damper if provided for fans.
  6. Mark a set position on each damper.

Test and measuring devices
  "Anemomaster" or "Anemometer" may be used for measuring air velocity to get air flow quantity.
  Prepare a hopper made of galvanized steel sheet as below figure and cover diffuser or air
  terminal with it.
Measure air velocity with putting the element of Anemometer just before the discharge side of
hopper. With the measurement of air velocity, calculate actual air volume with above formula.

Calculation of actual air volume with measured air velocity.

    V = 63.6 x v

  Here, V = air volume (m2/h)
    v = measured air velocity (m/sec)

If designed air volume (air velocity) is not obtained, adjust control knob of the diffuser or air
terminal, or volume damper concerned to the system.
Measuring and recording
For recording the measurements, use given formats. The sheets are attached to the end of
this procedure. The result of measurement to be confirmed by Owner's representative and
reported to the design office and concerned departments.
1. Using record format (sheet 1), record electrical data of every mechanical ventilation fan
for accommodation.
2. Using record format (sheet 2), record measured air velocity on the column and put in air
volume calculated with the air velocity respectively.
